At the Northeast of Patagonia, close to the city Puerto Madryn lies Peninsula Valdez. All around the Peninsula from July to December you can see whales, the Southern Right Whale in specific. They come there to reproduce and raise their babies in their first months. Those whales get pretty big, until 18m and can weight up to 130t.
So you wouldn't want to lie below one... So you can go on a boat and they drive out to the bays exactly where the whales are. The boats go up to 25m close to whales and then stop.
But the whales are so curious they usually come up to 3 or 4 m towards the boat to explore what's there. This is also why it is so easy for hunters to shoot them.
But for watching them having them so close is amazing of course. They are coming up between every 30 seconds or a few minutes to breathe and blow out water.
But even from beaches like Doradillo or even from the city Puerto Madryn you can see them very good. They come up to 10 towards the beach.
In October there are sometimes even Orcas, but unfortunately at this time of the year in July no chance to see them. But you can seel Sea lions all year. And they are pretty huge too.
